Joan Crawford, 1933
From Lisbon, Portugal, Mariana ("Gatochy") collects and shares a growing treasury of old photos, ads, paintings, kitsch, etc. Once you start browsing through her collections, it's hard to stop. One mark of her excellent taste is that she asked me to add my grandparents' wedding photo to one of her collections.

Greatgrandbunny
Who else but a two year old could make everyone in the house don bunny ears for her amusement? Here GG (greatgrandma Noreen) complies with Emily's wishes. GG was the baby I referred to here.

Shipwrecked in Iceland
This is a gorgeous example of the HDR (high dynamic range) process. Three or more exposures are made of the same subject: the 'right' exposure, plus under and over exposures. Then software is used to combine all the exposures into one photo. Visit this photographer's Flickr site or his photoblog. More info about HDR is here and here. (View above photo Large or Larger)

Coffey Sisters, July 1917
My greatgrandmother Mary and her sister Abby can't be talked into saying 'cheese' for the photographer. These women had come a long way from their birthplace in Kerry, Ireland, to finally settle on the West Side of Chicago. A few months after this picture was taken, Mary's daughter Nora would give birth to my mother. (Meet these ladies upclose.)

Gorgeous day we're having in Chicago. Let's all run outside and have our picture taken.
